Bachhraon is a city in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh. It is sited at a distance of 27 km away from the district Headquarters Amroha, 413 km away from the state capital Lucknow and 131 km away from the national capital Delhi. Urs and Ramlila are very popular in Bachhraon in its neighbourhood which is attended by huge population in and around the city. 

The city is very popular for Muslim and Sufi Saints namely Haji Sahab Peer, Sufi Salman Shah, Jhande Peer, Aughat Shah Warsi, Faiz Ali Shah and many others. The city is very popular for its agriculture product market. The city is also called as Bachhrayun. Rustampur Khurd Shumali is a popular locality in the city.

History of Bachhraon

The city was founded by Raja Bachhraj and it is also said that the city derived its name from its founder, however there are also different theories regarding the origin of the city name. The city during British rule had the popular Sherpur railway station which was mainly used by the British officials for hunting in the nearby localities.

The city is bounded by Fatehpur Shumai in the East, Tomra and Kamal Kajee in the North, Abu Nasarpur in the West and Jogipura in the South. 

The cities that are located nearby Bachhraon are Moradabad 68 km away, Bijnor at 61 km away, Bulandshahr at 68 m away, Meerut at 69 km away and Modinagar at 92 km away. The taluks that are located close to the city are Amroha Taluk at 22 km away and Chandpur Taluk at 26 km away. River Ganges flows at a distance of 88 km away from the city towards its West.

Climate in Bachhraon

The city experiences a humid subtropical climate where summer are long, hot and dry while the winters are short, cool and pleasant. Summer season in Bachhraon start from April till October with short monsoon season in between from July till August. The winter season in the city starts from November till January when it peaks. Heavy fog can be observed in Bachhraon during winter season. During March hot waves called “Loo” hits the city from Rajasthan. The city experiences an annual rainfall of 750 mm.

The density of population in the city is 3280.7 people in an inch per sq km in an area of 9.48 sq km. The population growth in Bachhraon is increased by + 1.67 % per year from the last census of 2001. The city homes 5092 homes within its boundary. Out of the total city population 12.31 % i.e. 3828 belongs to Schedule Caste.

The total number of children in the city between the age group of 0 to 6 years is 5193 out of which 2719 constitute boys and 2474 constitute girls. The child population contribute 16.70 % of the total city population. The sex ratio in Bachhraon is recorded as 918 female out of 1000 male and the child sex ratio in the city is recorded as 910 girls out of 1000 boys.

The literacy rate in Bachhraon is recorded as 58.88 % i.e. 15254 people of the total city population are literates. This is very less than the average Uttar Pradesh state literacy rate of 67.68 %. The male literacy rate constitutes 65.07 % i.e. 8781 and the female literacy rate constitutes 52.12 % i.e. 6473. Out of the total city population nearly 15847 people are recorded as illiterates.

Out of the total city population nearly 9102 people are employed out of which male constitutes 7966 and female constitutes 1136. Out of the total working population in Bachhraon about 90.05 % i.e. 8196 are engaged in main work and the rest of 9.95 % i.e. 906 are engaged in marginal work.

Communities and Languages in Bachhraon

People of all religions and communities reside in Bachhraon. Muslims forms the majority of population in the city as they are more than 75 % of the total city population. People of all disciplines lives in harmony in the city. It is said that the locals in Bachhraon are known for their friendly behaviour and sense of humour. The locals in the city speak Hindustani language while Hindi, Urdu and English is used for writing.

Bachhraon operates under Moradabad division of state administration which is administrated by a Division Commissioner. The city comes under Amroha Lok Sabha constituency and the current MP of the city is Shri Kanwar Singh Tanwar. The city falls within Dhanaura Vidhan Sabha constituency and the current MLA of the constituency is Shri Maikal Chandra.

The city is very famous for its Mango farms as cultivation for more than 100 varieties of mangoes are done in Bachhraon. Also the city is one among the largest mango producers in North India. Mini-sugar plants and handloom industries are other popular industries in the city.

Bachhraon being a municipal board is very weak in its transport infrastructure as no highways or railways or airports located in the city. The state highway UP SH 51 runs very close to the city towards its east. Indira Gandhi International airport at 117 km away and Dehradun airport at 140 km away are the airports located nearby the city. Amroha railway station is the nearby major railway station from Bachhraon located at a distance of 29 km away. The city has good local transport facilities.
